Hi, I’m Becky, the founder of Playa Yama! It is our mission to style women in clothes that bring comfort and confidence to your everyday lives. We launched Playa Yama on Valentine’s day!! It was such a thrill to see orders coming in for our checkered sweater I dreamt up out of a yearning for comfort. My mom passed away 9 years ago, and she was always my biggest cheerleader and fashion icon. I lost my mom around the same time I became a mom to my first of 3 kids, along with moving across the country, no longer having my career in NY fashion, and not having my brother and friends near, I lost myself. Developing Playa Yama was a journey of rebuilding my confidence with hopes to build yours, it was a labor of love, with lots of highs and lows.
We want to express our deepest gratitude for your support of our Playa Yama brand launch. We were thrilled to see so many familiar names and new ones place orders for our cozy sweaters! Your support means the world to us, and we couldn't be more grateful. We hope that you enjoyed our season 1 launch of checkered sweaters, and you were able to see the passion and dedication that went into creating Playa Yama.
Our mission is to be an overall inclusive brand, and we will expand sizing as our brand grows. Part of the fashion industry feels a bit like you can’t sit with us, which is never a good feeling. After working 10 years in the fashion industry in New York City, I felt like the sizing for contemporary and luxury markets were excluding people that didn’t fit within normal sizing. And because of my experience of not fitting my curvier body well into clothes, I dreamt of a brand that would be trendy and inclusive, Playa Yama.
My first style to launch is a cozy checkered sweater, and I want it to feel like a warm hug. Or a comfy sweater you style to head out to lunch with your girlfriends. The versatility is what I wanted most, as a busy mom of 3, my clothes need to work hard for me. Between launching a brand, being the chauffeur to my kids' activities, my partnership with my husband, and aging in laws - life is too busy to not have pieces that can transition easily throughout your day.
I want to thank everyone who helped make the Playa Yama launch possible. From our team members which consisted of my husband who gave emotional support, but was also my IT, handyman and business consultant. Along with my dearest babysitter turned bestie, Chelsea, who helped create content, started Playa Yama’s TikTok (@playayama) & Instagram (@playayamashop) and gave ideas from a more youthful perspective. To our manufacturer, Kristen, we couldn't have done it without you and thank you for always patiently answering all my random questions. Your hard work and creativity helped us bring our vision to life, and we are forever grateful. Along with my friends near and dear, your texts and calls, and believing in me when I thought I was going crazy was monumental.
As we move forward selling our season 1 cozy checkered sweaters, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. We are committed to providing the highest quality products and services, and we look forward to sharing the journey of Playa Yama with you.
